Obituary

Darris Dean McFarland passed away November 10, 2019 in Pocatello, Idaho surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Darris was born in Jerome, Idaho on July 7, 1958 to Dean McFarland and Karlene Bratsman McFarland. Growing up on a dairy, Darris loved spending time with his dad in the tractor, gathering chicken eggs under the silo, and tending to the garden with his mom. Darris truly enjoyed the many beautiful things this earth has to offer. He often talked about being a young boy and how much he loved flowers and birds.

Darris started his education as a young boy while helping milk the cows. His dad would give him numbers to figure, he would then run out and begin to solve the numbers on the side of the barn, then excitedly return to his dad with the answers.

Darris continued his elementary education in Wendell. The family then moved to Salem, when Darris was in 4th grade. Learning was always something Darris enjoyed. In high school he was accepted as an exchange student in Sao Palo Brazil where he learned Portuguese. Upon returning home, he graduated high school from Sugar Salem. Darris received his Bachelor's degree from Utah State University then went to Ecuador on a Fulbright scholarship. While in Quito, Ecuador he taught English as a secondary language at Central University of Ecuador. He was also fluent in Spanish. Darris loved traveling and later took his parents to Ecuador and his mother to Hawaii.

After returning from Ecuador he joined his dad and began work at Dean McFarland and Sons Land Leveling. Darris had a love for gardening and the outdoors and managed several nursery's during his life. A favorite being in Kaysville, Utah.

Darris enjoyed his family and friends, and Dachshunds. He will always be remembered as the favorite uncle sharing many treasured memories. Darris loved helping those around him to be happy. He always had a way of making everyone feel special.

In Pocatello, Darris met his life partner, Todd Taylor, while working at his first nursery. Together they spent 30 years working in various places from Ogden Utah to Twin Falls and back to Pocatello. They enjoyed hiking, trips to Yellowstone Park, and being in the outdoors. In the last few years Todd has been a very loving partner taking great care of Darris.

We will always remember Darris as the fun, caring, and loving individual that he was. He will forever be treasured and hold a special place in our hearts. He will be missed dearly.

Darris is survived by his partner, Todd, mother, Karlene McFarland, sister, Margo (Gary) Jackson, and brothers, Kirby (Nan) McFarland, Justin (Teresa) McFarland, Jaren (Sherri) McFarland. He is preceded in death by his father Dean McFarland and his beloved Dachshunds, Sadie, Hilda, Emma, and Sophie.
