David Clement Mackay, 54, of Rexburg, died April 20, 2024, at his home of natural causes. He was born January 21, 1970, in Rexburg, to Jerald and Jeane Young Mackay.
David attended schools in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School in 1988. He was a member of the high school band and enjoyed playing the drums. A typical 80's teen he enjoyed big pickups and rock and roll music.
After high school he briefly owned a landscape company. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his work.
He then went to work for Sure Steel, Incorporated, out of Salt Lake City. He worked for Sure Steel for over 20 years. He worked his way up through the ranks with the company until he was a project superintendent. His work ethic was second to none, and his attention to detail made him a valued employee. He worked on projects throughout the United States and around the world. He enjoyed his work and the people that he had the opportunity to work with.
He was a master gardener and loved spending time working in the garden. He was a talented wood worker. After his retirement he focused on these hobbies and spent a lot of time golfing. He enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona.
He is survived by is son, Cody Mackay; daughter, Jessica Brown; brother, Jeff (Karla Jensen) Mackay; and grandchildren, Isla, Elleah, and Darius.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald and Jeane Mackay; a brother, Todd; and a sister, Leslie.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at the Sutton Cemetery.
