Obituary

Dean M Davies, 87, passed away quietly January 14 in the home of his loving son, Jeff. Dean battled cancer for many years.

Dean was born March 2, 1936 in Parker, ID. to Edward Ellis Davies and Sarah LaVelma Smith. He was the 3rd child of 5 in this loving family. He grew up at the family ranch in Plano, ID. He graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1954. While in High School he met and fell in love with his lifelong sweetheart Faye Mernee Greenhalgh. The two were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 25, 1954. They welcomed their first son, Jeffrey, to the family in 1955. Their second son, Val, joined the family in 1960.

While in Rexburg Dean worked for Nelson-Ricks Creamery in Rexburg. In 1958 Dean began a 42 year career with United States Government. 20 years with the Army Corps of Engineers as a surveyor and 22 years with the U.S. Forest Service designing forest  roads. He retired from his government career in 2002. He also worked as a private engineer overseeing a new power line from Idaho in to Jackson Hole in the mid 2000's.

Dean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings including ward clerk, bishopric member, Elders quorum president and High Priest Group Leader. Dean and Faye served as temple workers in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples for 37 years. They also served two full time missions. One in Nevada and one in the Nauvoo Temple.

Dean loved anything to do with the outdoors, spending countless hours in his beloved mountains. He was an avid gardener with always one of the very best gardens in Lyman. He kept his house and yard as neat and tidy as you'll find.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one Sister, June Swensen and a brother, Ted. Two daughters in law Tamara (Val) and Shelley (Jeff). Also his loving wife of 63 years, Faye, in June of 2017.

He is survived by his two Sons Jeff (Kirsten) and Val (Kayleen), 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Also a few pet rocks behind the house.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20th at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 N 1st E, Rexburg Idaho.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services.  Interment following at the family plot in Plano.
