Obituary

Dean Kent, 79, of Newdale, Idaho, passed away in is home on Monday, May 16, 2016. He was born in Boise, ID, June 20, 1936 to Victor Loveland Kent and Emily Mae Aldridge.

Dean grew up in Star, Idaho, where he helped on the farm milking cows and driving a team of horses at an early age. He was the oldest of 8 children, and a great example of hard work to his siblings, and eventually his children.

Dean served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to the Central States Mission. Dean met Marilyn soon after his mission, and they were married June 18, 1959 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They were blessed with nine children. They were the pride of his life, and he never missed a moment to brag to anybody and everybody about them. He made sure to make it to all school activities for every child.

Dean was a hard worker and put in long hours doing farm work for several different local farmers. The last 23 years of working he farmed and drove truck for Walter's Farms in Newdale, and retired at the age of 74.

Dean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints until his death. He served in the Rexburg, Idaho temple from the time it opened in December 2007, until about 6 months prior to his death due to health reasons.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Kent. Also survived by his children, Scott (Twila) Kent, Twyla (Kurt) Knerr, Kevin (Debbie) Kent, Dawn (Lynn) McLaws, Melody (Rex) Prouse, Kelsey (Lacie) Kent, Joel (Amber) Kent, Adam (Kim) Kent, and Marilou (Jared) Woolstenhulme, 41 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren, totaling 100 survivors in his immediate family. He is survived by 5 siblings.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 siblings.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 am at the Newdale LDS chapel. A viewing will be held Friday May 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and again on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Teton-Newdale cemetery following the funeral services.
