DeEsta Bate Bishoff, 86, of Salem, Idaho, passed away July 6, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born June 8, 1932, in Rigby, Idaho to Otis Levi Bate and Veda Donetta Tanner.
DeEsta lived in Rigby, Idaho in her younger days on the Tanner Farm. At age 5, she moved to California with her parents till age 11 then returned to Idaho and settled in the Salem area. She attended school in Salem and then graduated from Sugar Salem High School.
She married Ruben Bishoff on April 25, 1955. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Rexburg Idaho LDS Temple on July 17, 2011.
DeEsta and Ruben owned farms and raised cattle in the Sugar City, Wilford, and Salem areas. The Bishoff homestead is still in Salem, Idaho, where they resided for 54 years. During that time they raised hay, grain, cattle, and potatoes and last, but not least, they raised 6 strong-willed daughters. It wasn't easy with 6 girls, but they worked side by side, along with their daughters to run the family farm.
DeEsta loved being a wife, mother and grandmother, and was always supportive of her husband and family. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting, and making homemade crafts. She loved visits with family, friends, and neighbors. After Ruben suffered a stroke in 1995, DeEsta lovingly cared for him for the next 14 years until he passed away.
DeEsta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony.
She is survived by her daughters, Margie McDowell of Sandpoint, Idaho, Mary Kae (Jim) Tkachyk of Rigby, Kathlene (Cleve) Young of Rexburg, Nancy (Stephen) Cook of Rexburg, Julie Bishoff of Ucon, and Amy (Ron) Butler of Salem; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents, husband Ruben, granddaughter Valerie, and a great-granddaughter Cassandra.
