Delas Arthur Munns

Oct 11, 1928 — Oct 16, 2026

Rexburg

Delas Arthur Munns, devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and longtime area resident, passed away peacefully at his home in Archer, Idaho, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, October 16, 2026, just five days after celebrating his 98th birthday. He passed from complications of congestive heart failure.

Delas was born on October 11, 1928, to Arthur James Munns and Janet Clements Munns. He was born at the home of his grandparents, Henry Alvin Munns (aka Sheriff Harry Munns) and Sarah Ann Weekes Munns in Archer, Idaho. His grandmother was the assisting nurse. He was the eldest of seven children.

In 1935 Delas and his grandfather Johny William Clements were severely burned in a fire that destroyed his Grandpa Clements’ home on the dryfarm. They both carried the scars the rest of their lives.

He attended grade schools in Archer and Lyman, graduated from Madison High School in 1947, and attended Ricks College. He served in the U.S. Army from August 1953 - June 1955 and was stationed in California and Texas.

Delas married Elaine Stoddard on July 28, 1955, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in October of 2012. On October 11, 2014, he married Elna Helen Grover, in the Rexburg LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in January of 2023.

He has lived in the Rexburg area and worked as a farmer and rancher all his life. He enjoyed hard work even though it required early mornings, late nights and long days as he worked with the cattle, horses and farming. He enjoyed the outdoors, huckleberry picking family outings, and gathering cattle by horseback at the Munns Ranch at Hebgen Lake in Montana, and from the Spencer/Dubois grazing allotment. He also worked for Roger Brothers, the Lincoln Sugar Factory, and Pro-Ida Foods in Ririe, Idaho during the winters. He valued his association with friends and neighbors in the community and thrilled in spending time with his family and grandchildren and cherished the memories made with them. He loved bouncing the little ones on his knee and, more recently, especially enjoyed two sets of great-grand twins.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Salem Ward Sunday School Presidency, Archer Ward Bishoprics, as Archer Ward Bishop for 6 ½ years, Ricks College 4th Stake High Council for 4 years, Home Teacher, and worked in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples.

He and Elaine are the parents of four children, Nicki (Kyle) Hayes of Archer; Steven (deceased) (Kay Peterson) of Montana; Nancy (Brett) Parkinson of Hibbard; Garth (Stephanie) Munns of Rigby.

He is survived by his brothers, Lynn D. Munns of Lyman, and Keith J. Munns (Ruth) of Sunnydell; sister-in-law, Bonnie Munns; 18 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Steven S. Munns; his first wife, Elaine Stoddard Munns; his second wife, Elna Helen Grover Munns; brothers: Merlin “Jim” Munns, Lyrin “Pete” Munns; Harry A. Munns; sister, Janet Ann Hansen; sisters-in-law Marie Munns, Vonda Munns, Mary Munns, and brother-in-law, Calvin Hansen.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the kind and caring nurses and workers at Aspen Hospice for the exceptional care they rendered to our Dad.
