IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delila
Weaver
August 29, 1927 – August 28, 2021
Delila Weaver, 93, of Egin Bench, died Saturday, August 28, 2021, one day short of her 94th birthday.
Delila was born August 29, 1927, to Elof Delos Nelson and Miriam Elizabeth Hodgson Nelson in Sunnydell, Idaho. She was the middle of six children. She attended elementary school in Sunnydell and talked about the itchy long stockings she had to wear when she walked to school in the snow - which she quickly removed after she left the house. She graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg in 1945 and recalled having to go without nylons and collecting metal for the war effort. She was extremely patriotic.
She married Miles Heber Weaver on April 9, 1946, in Dillon Montana. The marriage was sealed in 1965 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Idaho Falls Temple. The couple settled in Egin Bench where they farmed potatoes, sugar beets, barley, wheat, and hay on the Weaver farm. Delila was known as a hard worker and along with working on the farm, she was an amazing homemaker. She cooked, canned, sewed, and managed the household. The couple had six children and they were also taught how to work on the farm. Miles died in 2001.
Delila's life was one of service. She had an extensive list of skills, however her main talent was teaching others so they could learn too. She was a 4-H leader in Fremont County for decades teaching generations of children how to sew, cook, bake, can, and learn leadership skills. There was always an assortment of animals to raise including lambs, calves, and pigs. She was an expert seamstress, a skill she learned from her mother. She would tackle everything from wedding gowns to look-alike dresses for the granddaughters. She also decorated wedding cakes, including many for her children and grandchildren. She loved her cats, especially Rosie.
She loved her Savior Jesus Christ and was the definition of "charity never faileth." She had a huge garden and shared its bounty. She would always take time to teach a homemaking skill to a new mom, a grandchild or anyone that wanted to learn. She served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most of them centered on children. She served as Stake Primary President. She also served as the Blazer Scout leader for many years taking the boys on hikes; teaching them compass skills; building fires and passing off countless badges. She loved raising funds for the Pennies by the Inch program. She faithfully served in the temple.
She was an artist, learning the skill of oil painting later in life. Many of her paintings were given to her children and included beautiful flowers and landscapes. She loved bowling and was involved in league play for more than 50 years. She treasured her many friendships. She skied for many years at Grand Targhee and enjoyed traveling. She prepared and served countless family dinners and parties, including the traditional Christmas Eve event.
Her last years were difficult as dementia ravaged her mind and body.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four siblings, Mary Taylor Miller, Delos Nelson, Donald Nelson, and Lahna Woods; two grandchildren, Stefan Weaver and Brooklyn Walker, and son-in-law, Michael Mattel. She is survived by her children, Gail Mattel of Egin; Miles J (Sherri) Weaver of Idaho Falls; Alan N (Tamara) Weaver of Burbank, Washington; Janet (Marvin) Goodliffe of Rexburg; Dan Weaver of Egin, and Betty Ann (Kevin) Gerard of Lewisville; brother, Glen (Melanie) Nelson of Bloomfield, New Mexico; 27 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren.
