DeLoy Vess McKenna born December 11, 1926 in Hibbard, Idaho. He passed away at the Homestead Care Center April 5, 2018. DeLoy was the youngest child of Josiah and Margaret McKenna.
He grew up in Hibbard, Idaho and attended Madison High School as a star basketball player. He was drafted into the army out of high school and served his country in Germany as a Military Police and a driver for a Lt. Col.
He married Mary Lou Mickelson on January 24, 1949 in Vancouver Washington and lived in the Portland area where DeLoy was a door to door baby photographer. They moved back to Rexburg area where DeLoy began a career in plastering. In the early spring of 1952 they moved to Capistrano Beach California with their two youngest children, where DeLoy became self-employed running a plastering business. One more child entered the family, MaryLou joined the LDS Church, they were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in 1956. Two more children were added to the family. They also brought into their home foster children from the Navajo Indian reservation from Arizona, one lived with the family for 4-5 years and became part of the family.
In 1978 DeLoy and MaryLou moved back to their home in Rexburg, Idaho to retire. DeLoy continued to build homes in the Rexburg area. They served 2 missions for the LDS Church, one mission in the Philippines, and the other North Carolina.
Following their missions they would spend the winters in Overton, Nevada where DeLoy pursued his passion for fishing and rock hunting. The summers were spent in Rexburg and Sugar City where his love for genealogy flourished unearthing over 10,000 ancestors. He also spent many long hours indexing, wherein he learned to read Italian to accomplish this. Last year they moved into the Homestead Living Care Center in Rexburg, Idaho. His battle with leukemia ended as he has returned to be with his heavenly family. DeLoy was a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Lou, and his children, Gloria (Bob) Jorissen of Port Angeles, Washington, Rodney (Marian) of West Jordon, Utah, Sheldon (Elizabeth) of Pocetello, Idaho, Corine (Kevin) Seamons of Covington, Washington, Sharon (Marlow) Blanchard of Rigby, Idaho, Ross (Claudia) Wilson, 36 grandkids, 70 great grandkids and 1 great great grandson.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Sugar City LDS Stake Center, 25 West 3rd South in Sugar City. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the stake center from 5:30 to 7:00 and again on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
