Carma Denice Kunz Rammell, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Rexburg, Idaho on Friday, November 18, 2016. She was born February 23, 1929 in Cedron, Teton Valley, Idaho. She was the fifth of six children born to James Herbert Kunz and Arleigh Inez Drake Kunz.
Denice is survived by her husband of 67 years, Max Hegsted Rammell, and children: Jeffery Max Rammell (Leanne Sant), Christina O'Brien (John Dee O'Brien), Debra Letitia Larsen (L. Bruce Larsen), James Parley Rammell (Melanie Moulton), Matthew Kunz Rammell (Lisa Buxton), Jason Robert Rammell (Vicki Lee Thueson) and Colleen Raye McPherson, daughter-in-law. Max and Denice currently have 33 grandchildren and 87 great-grandchildren, many of whom share their grandma's name, physical characteristics and her caring and nurturing disposition. All affectionately call her "grandma" or "grandma-great." Denice is also survived by her youngest brother, Keith James Kunz (Betty Wray) and sister-in-law, Roberta Bird Rammell (Merrill Rice Rammell, deceased).
In addition to the titles of wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Denice also had many who affectionately knew her as "Aunt Denice". She was blessed with a wonderful heritage; a large and spreading family tree; "a fruitful bough...whose branches run over the wall." Many also called her "Sister Rammell" from the various ward families with whom she served over the years. These include the Tetonia Ward, Driggs 1st Ward, Rexburg 4th and 15th Wards, Bountiful Utah Stone Creek Ward, Washington Utah Buena Vista Branch, Ricks College YSA wards, many wards and branches where Max & Denice served as full-time missionaries and, most recently, the Harvest Hills Ward. Max and Denice served four full-time missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These include the Hawaii Honolulu Mission, Washington DC Temple Mission, New York Rochester Mission and Salt Lake Temple Square Mission. In her younger years, Denice loved to sing in the choir and share her artistic talents with her family. She also loved serving in various capacities with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the American Legion Auxiliary. The Rammell Family expresses a deep appreciation to all of their dear friends and family who have loved and cared for Denice, including the hospice nurses from Solace Hospice Care, Rigby, Idaho.
Denice is preceded in death by her parents, James Herbert Kunz and Arleigh Inez Drake Kunz, and siblings: Merle Drake Grand Kunz, Duane Herbert Beacher Kunz, Martha Faye Kunz Berger and Dale Rice Kunz. She is also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Rebecca Denice Rammell, her fourth son, Charles Holling Rammell, and grandson's, Roland Leon Rammell and Hayden Max Rammell.
In 1993, at the age of 64, Denice penned a brief personal history which she titled, "The Reason I Live." Its pages are devoted to her family, her courtship and marriage, her life as a wife and mother and the struggles, sorrows and joys of raising a family on a farm in Teton Valley, Idaho. She learned the art of journaling and diary keeping from her mother, who faithfully recorded 50 years in a daily diary. Max and Denice have devoted their lives to family history and temple work, serving countless hours as patrons and temple workers. Some of their children have suggested that, with age, perhaps they should slow down a little. Their response has always been, "There's nothing else we'd rather be doing" or "It's what keeps us going." Denice performed her last temple session in mortality a few weeks before she passed. Their example, the actions of their lives, attest the fact that family, generations past, present, and future are indeed "the reason they live."
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 21st at the Harvest Hills Ward Chapel, 612 South Hidden Valley, Rexburg, Idaho. The family will receive family and friends on the previous evening, Sunday, November 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the same location and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
