Obituary

Surrounded by his family at his home, William Dennis Pope returned to his Heavenly Father on June 16, 2014, after fighting a valiant battle against an extended illness. Dennis was born in Park City, Utah on April 2, 1944 to Max Arlo Pope and Margaret Wanda Felton. He was the
oldest of 7 children.

He graduated from Marsh Valley High School, and Rick's College. On June 16, 1967, he married Shirley Mardean Luthy and they were blessed with 5 children and made Archer, Idaho their home.

He served in Seoul, Korea during the Vietnam War and was a proud veteran. He served an LDS mission to the Central States and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints his entire life. Among his favorite callings was that of Primary Teacher and Home Teacher. He served with his wife in the temple and as stake missionaries.

He was a respected contributor to his community wherever he lived. He wore many hats from motel owner, parade chairman, volunteer fireman, truck driver, to employee of the State of Idaho Transportation Department. Music, tractors, trains, and family filled his leisure hours. He was a true friend to every person he met and was dearly loved. He leaves a lasting legacy to his family of his faith and endurance.

Surviving are his wife, Mardean; daughters: Kayleen (Scott) Skinner, Holly (Blake)Schwendiman, Deniene (Layne) Green, Melanie (Josh) Nelson; son, Bryan (JaNan) Pope; 22 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters: Janet (Ray) Clements, Connie Mickelson, Beckie (Alan) Swainston; and brothers: Howard Pope, Louis (Chris) Pope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Joyce Stevens; and sister in law, Cathy Pope.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Archer LDS Chapel with Bishop Bryan Pope officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
