Deon Schwendiman Stoddard, 84, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025 with her daughter at her side. She was born on July 12, 1941, in Newdale, to Melvin Russell Schwendiman and Faye Holman. Deon left behind family and friends who cared deeply for her.
Deon grew up in Newdale and made Eastern Idaho her lifelong home. Growing up she loved riding horses and being on the farm. In 1957, she married Ronald Hymas and they had two children, Brian and Jana. They later divorced. She earned her GED and went to Glenn E. Clark Business School in Idaho Falls. She later worked in the financial aid department at Ricks College and BYU-I, where she assisted countless students as they worked toward their educational goals. Her kindness, patience, and steady guidance were appreciated by all who had the privilege of working with her. In 1986, Deon married the love of her life, Richard Stoddard, which added 7 children to their family. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she held many callings. She also served a local church service mission with Richard.
Deon loved genealogy and family history. She was proud of her heritage. She loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time traveling, camping, and hiking. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to all their activities and spending time with them. She was their biggest fan!
On September 8, 2024, Deon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Lymond Stoddard. She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian Hymas; her granddaughter, Ashley Hillman; her parents, Melvin and Faye Schwendiman; her brother, Scott Schwendiman; and her sister, Debbie Beattie.
Deon is survived by her children; Jana Hillman (Randy), Joy Smith (Ralph), Richard Stoddard Jr. (Nathalie), Kristine LaPlante (David), Kayleen Schulz (Rob), Douglas Stoddard, Clinton Stoddard (Margarita), and Russell Stoddard (Shelley); brother, Randy Schwendiman (Sherie), as well as 32 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. She is also remembered lovingly by her extended family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
Deon will be laid to rest at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, support, and prayers offered during this time. The family would also like to thank Homestead and those who provided her medical care. Deon leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
