Dianne Whitney

February 7, 1946 — March 31, 2026

Rexburg

Dianne Charlene Whitney passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 80. Dianne was born on February 7, 1946, in Artesia, California to Wyman and Joyce Hill. She grew up in La Habra, California and loved spending time at the beach. At 16 years old, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A few months after her baptism, she was asked to speak at a regional fireside in Southern California where over a thousand youth were attending. A young man was in the congregation, and he looked up on stage and saw her and leaned over to his sister and said, "see that girl, I am going to marry her." They were married on March 20, 1964, in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity. They lived in several different places including La Habra and Brea, California; Troy, Ohio; Broomfield, Colorado; Fruit Heights, Utah, and spent the last 20 years in Rexburg, Idaho. They made life-long friends wherever they lived. They were blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters.

Dianne served in several positions within her church, both as a leader and a teacher. She loved serving the youth. She was a great mentor and friend to all and took them on many fun outings. She never judged them and loved them unconditionally. They were always hanging out at her home where they would talk and laugh and knew they would feel loved. She served a mission in Quezon City, Philippines with her best friend, Howard.

Besides serving the youth in her church, she was always involved with the youth in her community. She was involved with youth sports and served as managers and coaches for football, baseball, softball, and basketball. She loved sports and enjoyed being around her children. She also enjoyed playing sports and played on the city’s recreational softball and volleyball teams. She was very active and adventurous and enjoyed traveling. At age 78, she hiked Angel’s Landing at Zion’s National Park with some of her grandchildren.

Dianne suffered from many health challenges throughout her life, but she never complained and you would never know, nothing slowed her down. She was amazing and woke every day at 4:00 am to exercise.

Dianne had an infectious smile, and people loved her sweet nature. She had many friends and she was a perfect example of how to love and serve. She was the best mom, grandma, and nana. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and supported them in all their activities and special moments. She leaves a whole in our hearts and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyman and Joyce Hill; her daughter, Audra; and her grandson, Dillon. She is survived by her children, Destry of San Diego, California; Shon (Shelly) Whitney of Provo, Utah; and daughter, Tammy (David) Collins of Rexburg, Idaho. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to the staff and care givers of the Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg, Idaho, who helped care for her the last few weeks of her life.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8 at 1:00 pm at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg.
