Obituary

Dilan Taylor Birch, a loving husband, son, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on November 27th, 2021 while admitted at the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 26 years old at his time of death, just short of one week until his 27th birthday.

Dilan is survived by his wife, Stephanie Plumb Birch, his mother, Carrie Ricks Braithwaite, and siblings Tiffany Birch Dillon, Rachael Birch Wagner, Christa Birch McGrane, Brennon Birch, Nathan Singleton, Ben Singleton, Honey Singleton Bingham, and Jacob Singleton. Dilan is predeceased by his father, Bradley Otteson Birch, and brother, Bradley Max Birch.

Dilan was born December 2nd, 1994 to parents Carrie and Brad in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He grew up in Shelley, Idaho with his very large and rambunctious family. Dilan was raised in the country, with stories of roughhousing with his siblings through spending summers playing in the canal and water fights with power washers. Dilan was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 26th, 2002, at the age of 8 years old. He graduated from Firth High School and continued on to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, Dilan grew to love the people there and the culture he experienced. This influence impacted the rest of his life as he continued to love everyone around him and strived to bring as much joy into other's lives as he possibly could.

After returning from his mission, Dilan attended Brigham Young University – Idaho for several semesters before he required a liver transplant. Dilan's illness started while in high school, but through the blessings of God and medical professionals, he successfully received a transplant in 2018 and returned to full health. He returned back to Brigham Young University – Idaho to continue his education. Dilan wonderfully took advantage of his healthy body. He loved to ski, hike, play sports, swim (especially hot tub), and spend any time with this family and friends. At any family gathering Dilan could be found playing outside with his nieces and nephews, who he loved greatly.

In 2019, Dilan met Stephanie Plumb while at a student ward potluck that Dilan had helped organize as the ward Elder Quorum's President. While at that potluck, Dilan and Stephanie had a short conversation about which student apartments were best to live in and what sports and activities each other enjoyed. After that potluck, Stephanie had accidentally left a pan in the lobby of their apartment complex, which Dilan had picked up and brought back to his apartment. Through that interaction, phone numbers were exchanged and about a month later Dilan and Stephanie had their first date to the movies, which led to many more dates and eventually a marriage.

Dilan and Stephanie were married on April 18th, 2020 at a cabin in Island Park, Idaho. The ceremony was officiated by Jason Dillon, Dilan's brother-in-law. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony was small and isolated. Dilan and Stephanie were later sealed in the Oakland California Temple on July 24th, 2021. Dilan's life was full of love and laughter. Everyone that met him knew what a wonderful man he was through his talent to find humor in any situation, but also his compassion and love for his fellow man. Dilan had many friends throughout his life, but there were few that were as special to him as Cody "Reggie" Robinson, Tayson Harris, Noah Isom, and Zachary Beyler. The relationships that Dilan had in this life will surely continue in the next.
