Obituary

Dominick "Nick" Drue Kunz, 47, of St. Anthony, Idaho passed away at his home on September 20, 2025 after a two and a half year battle with cancer that was fought in true "Nick" fashion right to the very end.

Nick was born and raised in St. Anthony, Idaho and attended high school at South Fremont and Twin Falls. He then attended the College of Southern Idaho. While in high school, he worked construction with Mike Southam and at Zundell Tree Service. In Twin Falls he worked doing drywall for Steve Halestone and at Shopko in the Garden Center where he earned an award for his excellent customer service. He then went on an adventure through Washington, Oregon, and California doing gopher contracts with his close friends and brothers, Jess and Jube. He landed back in Twin Falls working at Inspirations with his brother Jube, delivering furniture. Life led him to American Falls, where he earned his Pesticide Applicator License and began working for JD Johnston at Best Way Pest Control in Pocatello. Nick later returned to his roots, earned his real estate license, and practiced at Hamilton Realty in St. Anthony as a third generation realtor. Studying hard to add certifications to his Pesticide Applicator licence. He and his brother Jube then started 1st Shot Pest Control, doing business all over the Upper Valley and East Idaho. He built something to be proud of, his clients all became like family. At the time of his passing, Nick had the highest number of certifications on his licence in the state through the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. Many winters Nick spent his nights grooming snowmobile trails for Fremont County in Island Park. Nick always had grit, he was the most determined worker anyone would ever meet. He mastered everything he did with dignity; one thing he and many others were very proud of, also a value he instilled in his children.

He met Amber Joyce Payne in 1995, and they were married on July 10, 2004. She was the love of his life, and together they built something real, a life filled with chaos, adventure, arguments, laughter, and deep love for each other. Throughout the years, they raised four children: Jordan, Kyler, Braxton, and Kimber. He was a proud dad, loyal friend, and softie for his granddaughters. Nick's family meant everything to him, including nieces, nephews, and many 'adopted' children along the way, his employees, and several from his years of coaching Braxton's baseball teams. He loved his farm, going hunting, looking for sheds, going on rides in his old trucks, and in his last months, riding his dirt bike through the desert.  Nick took a lot of pride in his Fremont County roots and being able to pass that down to his children and grandchildren.

Special thank you to; Justin and Lexie at KC Auto, the Grand Peaks family especially HIS nurse Marla, and PA Bryant Hansen for both keeping him AND his trucks on the road, Farren Eddins, and those who made it possible for us to go to the Phillies game, Matt Freolich from Matt's Meats and Damion Sadek for the recent adventures, and so many more friends, family, medical staff for all the heartfelt acts of kindness shown towards Nick and his family. Words cannot express how grateful we are for everyone's love, support, and prayers.

Nick will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for adventure, and his deep devotion to his family and friends. His presence, laughter, and strength will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Nick is survived by his wife, Amber Joyce Kunz, and their children: Jordan Nichole Skinner Spencer (Kacey), Kyler William Kunz, Braxton Shane Kunz, and Kimber Joyce Kunz. He was a proud Papa to Marlee Ann Spencer and Lainee Corine Spencer. He is also survived by his parents, Shane Rice and Debra Hamilton Kunz of St. Anthony, and his beloved grandmother Marion Hamilton of St. Anthony, with whom he lived from 14 to 17. His siblings include Jessamon Kunz, Jubil Kunz (Jen), Brooks Kunz, Drake Kunz, and Sophia Kunz Revere, brother-in-law Brian Payne (Chrissy), and nieces and nephews: Jaxon Kunz, Mahaylah Kunz, Jaden Amen, Kase Kunz, Clay Revere, Cashe Payne, and Carter Payne.
