Obituary

Alan Don Rasmussen, 77, passed away peacefully April 2, 2018 in Rexburg, Idaho. The youngest of 12 siblings, Don was born September 6, 1940 to Elvin Andrew and Anna LaPreal Rasmussen. Raised on a small farm in the Teton Valley, Don learned the lessons of hard work and the importance of family.

At the age of 17, he joined the National Guard and served in the military for more than three years. Following basic training, Don continued to court the love of his life, Evonne Lent from Newdale Idaho; whom he had known since high school. Don and Evonne were married on the 29th of June, 1959. They had three sons, Brett in 1959, Blake in 1961 (wife Polly) and Jason in 1966 (deceased).

Don always believed he could accomplish anything in life with hard work. Early in his life, he was a mechanic, truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and eventually a real estate professional. After establishing his own brokerage business, Rasmussen Real Estate, he remained very active in selling large farms and ranches throughout the Snake River valley for many years. Along the way, he also developed a farm in Hamer Idaho which grew to more than 3,000 acres.

While he loved to farm, he also loved to ranch which also kept him busy raising cattle and quarter horses. He cherished the associations he had with farmers, ranchers and business owners in the community. He also loved to hunt and fish and ride horses in the mountains with friends and family and often told stories to others about his adventures. In his later years of life, he especially enjoyed just watching the wildlife near their home along the river in Hibbard.

Don and Evonne were sealed together with their family in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-- Idaho Falls Temple on September 6, 2003. This was a very special occasion for Don, not only for himself and his family, but because it meant so much to his loving wife Evonne. His wife and family mattered more to him than anything else in life and he made a point to always be there for them in any time of need. Don is survived by his wife Evonne, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
