Donald Alvin Stevens, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Donald was born September 9, 1946 in Portland, Oregon to Frederick Alvin Stevens and Marie Pearl Rhodes and raised in multiple foster homes. He married Sandra Ottesen Stevens on February 14, 1980 and thirty-two years later, on February 14, 2012, they were sealed in the Salt Lake temple for time and all eternity. He was an active member of the LDS Church and enjoyed serving in the Provo and Payson temples.
Donald started working at a very young age and gained a love for work. He loved to build anything with his hands including snakeskin hat bands, boot bracelets and belts. He also loved being in the outdoors – hunting, fishing, going to rodeos, etc. Donald served in the National Guard for six years before retiring. Donald was a very compassionate person. He loved to talk to everyone and was grateful and complimentary to everyone he met.
He has two children - Tanya Renee Cox (Portland, OR) and Sheldon Rodell Stevens (Portland, OR) as well as two grandsons. He also has four "adopted" grandchildren - Joseph, Lottie, Willie, and Levi - children of Andrew and Katie Richards who are special friends to Donald and his wife. He is survived by his brother Jerry Stevens (Fairview, OR) and his sister Patty Stevens (Portland, OR). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marla Russell (Teton City, ID), brother-in-law Max Ottesen (Arile) of Overton, NV and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spanish Fork Third Ward Building located at 650 West 400 North in Spanish Fork. A viewing will be held prior to services in the same location from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.
A Service for family and friends in Idaho will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 N 1st E, Rexburg, with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at Walker Funeral Home to assist the family in covering expenses for a headstone.
