Donald Roland Walton received his call to return home to his Heavenly Father, June 11, 2016. He was born May 15, 1933 in Beechmont, Pennsylvania.
He was a pudgy baby and was lovingly given the nickname "Pooch" by his aunt. He had one sister and five brothers.
At 18 years old, Donald joined the United States Navy so he could see the world. During his service in the Navy, he pursued his GED.
When his finished his term, he returned to San Diego, California to work for General Dynamics. While there he worked on the Atlas Missile Booster.
Donald met Nancy Hanlon through mutual acquaintances and they were married June 28, 1960.
They had their first daughter Sharon in 1963 and their son Duane in 1966. Due to layoffs, Donald went to work for Ryan Astronautics. In 1973 Donald switched careers and went to work for Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Oceanside, California.
This was the place where he met a friend that introduced him to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On September 18, 1976 Donald took his family to the Los Angeles LDS Temple to be sealed for all time and eternity.
Shortly after their second daughter June was born. Donald had fair skin and always wore a beard. His position at the telephone company required him to climb poles. At one point a newspaper captioned a picture of him with the words, "What does Santa do in the off season." He retired from the phone company in 1999.
September of 2005 Donald and Nancy moved to Salem, Idaho. Donald loved nature and being in the country. His hobbies consisted for riding his Harley, reading Louis L'Amour books and repairing anything broken. He loved the gospel, his family and everything his Heavenly Father created for him. He touched many lived with his warm smile and funny stories. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Goodbye pooch!
