Donna Annabell Thompson Summers, 87, of Rexburg, died peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, February 15, 2012. She was born July 10, 1924 to Peter Orlando Thompson and Laura Annabell Wynn in Salt Lake City, Utah. At age 3 her family moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where she attended local schools, graduating from Madison High School in 1942.
She married Franklin Gunnell Summers on December 3, 1941 in Rigby, Idaho. They made their home in Rexburg during the winter and at Summers Butte during the summer. They built a home east of Rexburg in 1948 where she has lived since. She worked on the family farm as a cook, bookkeeper and helping wherever needed while raising 5 children.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Cub Scout Leader and Visiting Teacher in the Ward Relief Society.
She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, her cabin in Island Park and going to lunch with her children. She loved her family and decorating cards for special occasions and playing Yahtzee with grandchildren and great grandchildren. When she and Frank retired they enjoyed three years wintering in Arizona.
She is survived by her children, Donna Gay (Randy) Murdock of Victor, ID, Jean (Ray) Whitmore of St. Anthony, ID, Lauralee (Brad) McFarland of St. Anthony, ID, and Franklin Kelly (Julie) Summers of Rexburg, ID, as well as 13 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Peter Orlando (Ann) Thompson III, of Rexburg, ID and Boyd Thompson of Arizona.
She is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Judy Ann Summers, and an infant son, George Orlando.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Mill Hollow LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will in the Sugar City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Primary Children's Hospital.
