Obituary

Dorian Bruce Bowen, age 78, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Homestead Senior Living Center in Rexburg, Idaho.

Dorian was born January 25, 1946, in Spokane, Washington, to Lyle Guyette and Rosannah Nye Bowen. He was the second of seven children. He lived in Washington State for a brief time before moving to Idaho.  While attending Idaho Falls High School, he joined the school's pep band after auditioning as a tuba player, graduating in 1964. Dorian continued his education at Ricks College the next year.

He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1967 and enjoyed his time in their flight training program. He was stationed at Fort Devin in Massachusetts, where he taught telescope making classes. In 1969, he was assigned to Camp Casey in South Korea, forty miles north of Seoul, for the last four months of his service. While there, Dorian helped the wounded who were coming in from the Vietnam War.

On August 10, 1976, he married Bertha (Bert) Neibaur in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. The first two years of their marriage were spent in Boise, Idaho, followed by eleven years of traveling for Dorian's business as a salesman and auctioneer.  Finally, they settled in 1989 near Green Canyon Hot Springs in Newdale, Idaho, where they lived the rest of their life together.

Dorian enjoyed fishing, tinkering and inventing, tending to his apple orchard, and reading in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife, Bert; children, Zack (Erin) Bowen, of Missouri, Sophie (David) Mickelsen, of Utah, Asha Forsyth of Idaho, Mack (Claire) Bowen, of New Mexico, Cyman Bowen, of New Mexico, and Tristin (Cammie) Bowen, of Idaho; grandchildren Will Bowen, Wesley and Benjamin Mickelsen, Aleah, Brigham, Alice, and Anne Bowen; and siblings, Diana (Dick) Storer, of Utah, Karen (Dale) Hoffman, of Utah, Donna (Kim) Rogers, of North Carolina, Durrand (Shiela) Bowen, of Utah, and Bart (Tammy) Bowen, of Nevada. Dorian was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Brett Bowen.
