Duane Hutson

September 6, 1943 — May 6, 2026

On the evening of May 6th, 2026, Fay Duane Hutson was called home at the age of 82. Wipe the tears from your eyes and fill your hearts with joy, as this calling has lent Duane the opportunity to be reunited with his wife, son, parents and many other loved ones.

Duane was born in Muskegon, Michigan on September 6th, 1943 to Fay and Nina Hutson. Duane was raised and attended school in Michigan. In 1963, his family moved to Oregon and Duane followed some years later to help with the family business. In 1968, Duane joined the Army serving as a Machine Gunner during the Vietnam War. When Duane returned home, he met the love of his life Dorothy May and her little boy Dean. The two later married in 1972 in Reno, Nevada. In 1975, the family moved to St Anthony, Idaho and later settled in Rexburg, Idaho.

Duane instantly loved Dean and treated him as if he were his own flesh and blood. The two had an amazing bond until Dean’s untimely death in 2008. Duane and Dorothy had a second son, Fay Duane Jr in 1973. Duane had a special relationship with his youngest boy. They spent many nights working on Juniors drag race car. He never missed the chance to see his son race. Duane was a very dedicated father and never missed an opportunity to brag about his boys.

In the 80’s, and for the next 30+ years, Duane drove truck for Walter’s Ready Mix where he and the owner, Dave Walters, grew to be lifelong friends.

Duane enjoyed the simple things in life. He never passed on the opportunity to have a good conversation over a cup of coffee. He loved deep sea fishing and hunting. One of Duane’s favorite stories to tell was when he drew a once in a lifetime moose tag from which he harvested his moose. Duane had many passions in life but he was most passionate about his family. His wife, sons, and grandchildren were his world, and he made certain everyone knew it. Duane could often be found down at a café proudly sharing stories about his children and grandchildren. Duane adored his family and his family honored to be able to call him their dad and grandpa.

Duane is survived by his son Fay Duane Jr., five grandkids, eight great grandkids, two great great grandkids, a brother and a sister, Leroy and Ina. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Dorothy May Hutson, his son, Nelson Dean, parents, and brothers.

Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, May 18th at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. Interment will be at the Twin Falls Cemetery.

There will be a final ride for Duane after the service from Rexburg to Rigby all semis are welcome.
