IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dwayne
Seeley
August 30, 1927 – June 12, 2025
Gomer Dwayne Seeley, known to everyone as Dwayne, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at The Homestead in Rexburg, Idaho. He was 97.
Born August 30, 1927, in Hayden, Utah, to Joseph Hyrum Seeley and Blodwen Williams, he was the fifth of ten children and was raised in Chester, Idaho. His siblings were Mont, Beth, Elmo, Max, Wilma, Zella, Lynn, Lloyd, and a twin brother who passed at birth. Dwayne graduated from South Fremont High School and served in the Military Government Reserve during World War II.
He married Marie Blanchard in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 13, 1952, after returning from a mission to the Western Canadian Mission. Together, they made their home in Rexburg, Idaho, and raised three daughters: Kera, Brenda, and Connie. Their son Craig passed in infancy.
Dwayne began his banking career in St. Anthony, Idaho, and later became a traveling auditor for First Security Bank, serving southeastern Idaho and Wyoming. He also graduated from the National Association for Bank Auditors in Wisconsin.
Rather than picking up golf while traveling, he chose quilting—a hobby that turned into a lifelong passion. He created hundreds of jean quilts, which he donated to humanitarian efforts and lovingly gifted to family and friends.
He had a quick wit, a love for building fires, a knack for tinkering, and an unwavering love for his 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Once, he jokingly said, "The only reason I had kids was so I could have grandkids."
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dwayne served a couple's mission in Winnipeg, Canada, as well as employment and humanitarian missions. He and Marie also served as temple workers in Rexburg.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his wife Marie (2021), infant son Craig, his parents, and all of his siblings. He is survived by daughters Kera, Brenda, and Connie; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a legacy of quiet strength, service, and love.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff at The Homestead and Homestead Hospice for their compassion during his final months.
If you have been gifted a Dwayne Seeley original quilt, please bring it to the service to display on your pew.
