Earl Edgel "Ed" Bailey, 81 of Rexburg, passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 15, 2017 surrounded by his family.
He was born December 18, 1935 in Fountain Green, Utah to Early William and Edna Guymon Bailey. He was the oldest of three boys, his brothers are David Ray Bailey and Dale Russell Bailey.
They moved to Bountiful when he was about 12 and attended Bountiful Jr. High School. This is when he got into Scouting, which he loved doing, and earned his Eagle Scout Award. He helped many boys get their electricity merit badge. He never let the grass grow under his feet. He attended Bountiful High School for his Sophomore year and then attended Davis High School for his Junior and Senior years, graduating from there. He started dating Veta Child in High School. They were married on May 19, 1955 in Roy, Utah. Their were later sealed in the Rexburg LDS Temple, for time and all eternity. They were married for 62 years.
He worked for Utah Power and Light for 33 years and retired in 1987 at the age of 51. He and Veta loved going camping, fishing with family and friends. They also enjoyed going on several cruises before and after retiring. He was an avid bowler. His high score was 298. He bowled 758 in a series and won the state championship. He and his sons and grandsons did a lot of hunting trips together. He was a jack of all trades, he could build or make anything he set his mind to. He was very knowledgeable in many things and loved to share that knowledge. Family and friends were always very important to him and Veta.
They were blessed with 4 children; Jackie (Reid) Call of Rexburg, Idaho, Scott (Corinne) Bailey of Preston, Idaho, Jerry (Jo Ann) Bailey of Pocatello, Idaho, and Vickie (Mark) Jensen of Rexburg, Idaho, as well as 20 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Nancy.
He loved life and lived it to the fullest. We all have many wonderful memories and have done lots of things together. We will miss you Dad (Grandpa) till we meet again!
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 19th at the Burton East Chapel, 2332 W 2000 S, Rexburg. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
