Edith Jensen

Edith DeMott Jensen, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Rexburg, surrounded by her loving daughters, on Thursday, April 2, 2009. Edith and her twin sister, Mary, were born May 14, 1912, in a log house at Burton, Idaho to Orson Bergen and Eliza Rowberry DeMott.

She spent her childhood at the Woods Livestock Ranch in Hamer-Camas, where her father was the foreman of the 16,000 acre ranch.

She attended schools in Rexburg, and graduated from Edmunds High School in Plano.

In 1931, Edith began nurses training at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls, and graduated as a Registered Nurse. On August 31, 1934, she married Owen Martin Jensen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their marriage was blessed with five daughters.

Edith and Owen lived in Idaho Falls where they farmed, owned and operated the Modern Dairy, and later the White House Drive Inn. In 1949, they bought a farm near Ashton and farmed in the Farnum-Drummond area. Edith was actively involved and worked hard in all of their enterprises as well as nursing in the Ashton Hospital for nine years.

Edith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in her ward as organist, teacher in Primary and Relief Society. She was an excellent quilter. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Republican Women.

Edith is a beloved mother and grandmother of five daughters, 34 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her daughters are Carol (Ed) Clark of Ashton, Gail (Sylvan) Seely, Gwen Lee, Linda (Brent) Eames all of Rexburg, Ruth (Dan) Reynolds of Ashton; She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Owen Jensen, brothers Clyde and Joe DeMott; sisters, Amelia Walters, Lyda Hillman, Mary Millward; and a son-in-law, Robert R. Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Rexburg LDS Stake Center, 845 West 7th South, with Bishop Edwin Olson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rexburg Stake Center and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Burial will be in the Burton Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.flammfh.com.
