Obituary

Eldred Clarence Stephenson of Rexburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, surrounded by his family, after having celebrated his 104th birthday on March 10. He was born in Farr West, Utah in 1913, the oldest of 6 children to Clarence and Iriminda Stephenson. When he was 4 years old, his family moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he attended school and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1931.

While attending high school he met his future wife, Margaret "Peggy" DeWitt. They were married in June of 1935.

Eldred worked at Ricks College for a number of years before interrupting his employment to serve in the US Navy during World War II. After an honorable discharge from the Navy he transferred to the National Guard and returned to work for Ricks College. He served in the National Guard until 1966 when he retired with the rank of Major.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved his Rexburg 4th Ward family.

He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, golfer, hunter, gardener. He enjoyed spending time on his patio in his backyard. Eldred knew somebody everywhere he went. He had many friends of all ages and was a friend to all who knew him. Eldred loved his titles of Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother and Uncle above all else. He loved his family.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Wauer and Errol Stephenson; sisters, Margie Clarke and Devona (Dr. Hal) Davis; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy, two brothers, and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, at the Rexburg 4th Ward Chapel, 166 South 1st East, with Bishop Rob Wood officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
