Ellen Maxine Calaway Arnold, age 99, passed away August 16, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Gina. Ellen was born January 16, 1924, to Clyde T and Vera Roylance Calaway in Salem, Idaho.  She was the oldest of six children. She grew up on a farm in Salem where she learned the value of hard work.

She was an accomplished pianist and organist, and throughout her life played at numerous funerals and accompanied many soloists and choirs. She served as ward organist for many years. Her love of music has been passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Ellen earned her teaching degree at Ricks College and taught 2nd grade in Sugar City, Idaho. It was during her time at Ricks College that she met Glen Harley Arnold. They were married April 26, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. Glen was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, so Ellen often lived near military bases where Glen was stationed. After the War, they bought a house and farm south of Rexburg, Idaho, where they raised their six children.

Ellen will be remembered as a kind and gracious lady, and she always had treats for her visitors. She loved flowers and plants of all varieties and was often seen working in her yard.

As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, she served in many callings throughout her life. Her testimony was strong and never wavered even during trials that came her way.

Ellen was preceded in death by her eternal companion Glen, her parents Clyde and Vera, her siblings Glenna Price, Gar Calaway, Blair Calaway, Val Calaway, Shirla Whitby, and a son-in-law David Perry. She leaves a legacy of love and kindness with her children: Diane Wood (Jim), Julie Perry (David—deceased), Connie McClellan (Jim), Lane Arnold (Kay Lynne), Laurie Allenbach (Brent), Gina Booth (David), 33 grandchildren, and 86 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Lyman LDS Chapel. Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Lyman chapel. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
