Obituary

Ellis Wilson Miller, 72, of Rexburg, Idaho passed away January 16, 2012 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt lake City, Utah with his wife and children at his side.

Born to George and Sylvia Miller in Twin Falls, Idaho June 27, 1939, he grew up in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. He then received his bachelor's degree from BYU in Physics, and went on to earn his PhD in Astronomy from the University of Arizona.

He married Karren Lea Malstrom December 19, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple. During his life he touched the lives of thousands of individuals. He was a professor of both physics and astronomy and ran the planetarium for 30 years at Ricks College/BYU-Idaho.

He served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including: Bishop, Stake Presidency, High Council, Temple Worker and many other callings. He served two missions, his first in Germany and a second with his wife in the Morristown New Jersey Mission.
He loved teaching, astronomy, star gazing, archaeology, nature, traveling and visiting ruins throughout the world.

He had a love of music especially classical music. Playing the organ was a favorite past time. He enjoyed spending time with his wonderful wife and being with his family. He had endearing sense of humor and loved to laugh.

He is survived by his devoted wife and eight children; LeeAnn (Allen) Latham of Newcastle, CA; David (Paul) Miller of Denver, CO; Robert (Jenni) Miller of Blackfoot, ID: Brett (Heather) Miller of Yakima, WA; Alicia (Tyson) Ferney of Idaho Falls, ID; Janelle (Jeff) Reynolds of West Jordan, UT; Brian (Cassie) Miller of Tucson, AZ; Tristen (Dan) Brigman of Orem, UT and 26 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Brent (Jackie) Miller of Buhl, ID.

Ellis is preceded in death by his parents and sister LaRae Young.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM on Tuesday the 24th of January at the LDS Valley View Ward Building (1070 S 2nd E, Rexburg, ID). The family will receive friends Monday, January 23rd from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, Idaho and Tuesday from 9-9:45 AM prior to the services at the church.
