Elmo Tonks passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Idaho State Veterans home in Pocatello at the age of 91. He was born January 30, 1918 to William Joseph and Frances Eliza Parsons Tonks in Victor, Idaho. He lived in Victor until 2003 when he and his wife Verna moved to Sugar City, Idaho.

As a youth he attended school in Victor. At the age of twenty-two, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and was one of the first groups deployed to England at the beginning of World War II.

On June 10, 1947, he married his sweetheart, Verna Hansen, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with five children and were married for sixty-two years.

Elmo and his brother owned and operated a gas station and auto repair shop in Victor for many years.

He is survived by his wife Verna and their five children; Jeanine (Brent) Sagers of American Falls, Idaho, Marie (Robert) Hone of San Diego, California, Brian (Nancy) Tonks of Rigby, Idaho, Dennis (Shirlene) Tonks of Packwood, Iowa, Shauna (Blair) Burke of Firth, Idaho; sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Idaho State Veterans Home for the love, support and kindness they have shown to Elmo and each of us. We would also like to give a special thanks to Laurie and the Rexburg Home Health for all of their service.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12 at the Victor LDS Chapel, 87 East Center Street, in Victor. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, in Rexburg and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Victor Cemetery with military rites.
