Eloise Virginia Lowery McCullough, 82, of Rexburg died September 11, 2019, of natural causes.
Eloise was born in Macon, Virginia, the second daughter of Agatha Bell Reed and Clarence Worsham Lowery. She and her two sisters, Doreen and Martha, grew up in Giles County Virginia and were raised by their maternal grandmother, Nora Elizabeth Reed. Eloise graduated from Pembroke High School in Pembroke, Virginia in 1955.
With the encouragement and assistance of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she traveled by Greyhound bus to Rexburg, Idaho where she attended what was then Ricks College. While working in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that summer, Eloise met and subsequently married George A. Johnson from Victor, Idaho. They had six children: Monica, Morgan, Mechele, Mitchell, Macon, and Marshall. Eloise frequently spoke of the great love and admiration she had for her children, whom she said were her greatest achievement. Eloise and George were divorced in 1978.
Eloise earned her Bachelors Degree from William Jewell College at Liberty, Missouri and her Masters Degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She worked with homeless, delinquent, and foster youth until her retirement.
Eloise is survived by her children, Morgan Teresa (Rex) Beach, Mechele (Don) Marotz, George Mitchell (Kristy) Johnson, Macon (Russell) Williams, and Marshall Burton (Abigail) Johnson; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Monica Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, at the Victor Idaho Cemetery.
