IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ethelyn
Jones
July 17, 1939 – April 28, 2025
Ethelyn O'Mealy was born to George and Beatrice O'Mealy on July 17, 1939, in Ely, Nevada. She left us on April 28, 2025, in Rexburg, Idaho. Ethelyn was blessed to be the younger sister to Lianne, whom she never had the chance to meet in this life, and the older sister to Walt.
The O'Mealy family moved to Myrtle Creek Oregon and Ethelyn befriended Mary Lynn Jones. Mary Lynn introduced Ethelyn to her older brother, Jerry Glenn Jones. He would become Ethelyn's husband and the love of her life. Together they spent 64 years laughing, working, raising children, and doting on their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ethelyn's words to Jerry say it best, "Don't ever change, I love you just the way you are."
Mother to Stephanie Lianne, Lance Cary, and Barry Glenn, Ethelyn loved her children and devoted her life to them. Together, the family moved around Oregon and Washington until they settled in Pleasant Hill, Oregon in 1976, where they remained for 46 years. She was a talented florist, designing her daughter's flowers for dances and even her wedding. She spent years as the secretary at the local junior high. Though she had many talents, Ethelyn's family always came first.
Ethelyn loved to travel with Jerry. Their favorite way to travel was always by car. Together, they drove the contiguous United States and Alaska. A trip to Hawaii allowed them to say they traveled to every state in the nation. Each of their eight grandchildren was blessed with trips to Oklahoma to visit the extended Jones family. Grandpa and Grandma's seven-passenger van was filled with Grandpa's singing, Grandma's snacks, and the best kind of love.
Ethelyn loved her Savior and committed her life to being like Him. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Relief Society, Young Women's, and Primary organizations. She was best known for her willingness to serve anyone in need.
We will miss our mother, grandmother, and friend, but we know that she is joyously reunited with those who have already left this life: her parents, George and Beatrice O'Mealy; her siblings, Lianne and Walter; her loving husband, Jerry Glenn Jones; a son, Lance Cary Jones (Krissy); and a great-grandson, Zealand Meakins—both taken from us too soon.
Ethelyn is survived by two of her children: Stephanie (James) Crain and Barry (Lisa) Jones. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Brook (Andy) Meakins, Shelby (Jonathan) Garner, Kody (Jamie) Jones, Mallory (Lane) Judy, Jared (Carissa) Crain, Jessica Jones, Haley Jones, and Taylor (Colt) Kometz. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren: Kaylie, Trenton, Adison, Finlay, Kinzlee, Emma, Pacific, Caroline, Coral, Xander, Tucker, Aaron, William, and Rome. Her legacy will live on through those she dedicated her life to.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 10th, at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, Rexburg, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 9:45 AM before the service. Interment will be at the Sutton Cemetery.
