Florence Simmons, long time Lyman resident, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 of natural causes. She was just six days short of her 90th birthday.
She was the daughter of Elias and Mary Tyler Morris of Hibbard. Florence graduated from Madison High School. She married Alfred Simmons on December 1, 1939 and they moved to Lyman. Florence lived in the family home just east of the Lyman Ward building for 74 years.
A son and four daughters were born to Al and Florence.
Florence became an excellent cook, serving wonderful meals to various farm hands who worked on their farm. In 1965 she began working for Food Services at Ricks College.(BYU Idaho). Florence served as shift supervisor until her retirement in 1982. Always cheerful and accommodating, she was home away from home for many of the students during those years.
After her retirement, Florence enjoyed traveling, and took a number of trips with Ricks College tour groups, usually in the company of long time friends from her working years. She also spent time visiting her children and grandchildren in Utah, Colorado and Arizona
Florence is survived by her children, Twila (Keith) Nelson of Salt Lake City; Eileen (Evan) Goulding of Denver, Colorado; Pat (Ken) Jones of St. George, Utah; Roger Simmons, Denver, Colorado; Mary Kay (John) Gosch, of Mesa, Arizona; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grand children and sister-in-law Nina Morris of Hibbard.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred Simmons, her parents, and all seven of her siblings.
Funeral Services will be held on 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 4th at the Lyman Ward Chapel. Family and friends may gather for the viewing Friday evening from 5:00-6:30 at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
