Fredrick "Fredie" Kenneth Beard, 83 of Rexburg, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Rexburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rexburg. He was born December 12, 1928 at Sharpsburg, Ohio to Sarah Eppine Hogue and James Vernon Beard. He had seven brothers and four sisters. He married Catherine Nelson October 5, 1989 in Rexburg.
Fredie came to Rexburg in 1961 and worked for Myron Lewis and then for George Messick. He also worked on a mink farm in Rexburg then went to Jerome to work on a farm. After returning to Rexburg, he worked for DeLoy Ward as a farm hand then spent the next twenty-three years working for the Rexburg Sanitation Department.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and loved being in the mountains among the trees. He always had a dog that he took everywhere.
Fredie is survived by his wife Catherine Beard of Rexburg, many nieces and nephews and his daughter Rena.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to services. Interment, with military rites, will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
