Garth Dunsford Dexter, 91, of Rexburg, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 in Idaho Falls. He was born October 18, 1925 at Plano, Idaho to Joseph Henry Dexter and Eva Dell Fisher Dexter. He was the third of six children. He attended school at Edmunds, Idaho.
Garth married Erma Gene Jenkins on July 12,1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
Garth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in the Young Men, Sunday School and priesthood including as a bishop at a Ricks College Ward.
He has lived in Egin, St. Anthony, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Rexburg. They made wonderful friends at each place they lived.
He served in the military in the Army, serving in Okinawa shortly after World War II ended. He also served and volunteered in many clubs including; Lions, Rotary and on the Easter Seal Society. He loved all types of sports - playing and watching.
Garth is survived by his three children, Nicki (Wayne) Robertson of Plano, Hal Dexter of Pocatello and Diane Dexter of Idaho Falls, three grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, a brother Merdith Dexter and a sister Nellie Thomas. He was preceded in death by his wife Erma, his parents, a sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center at 314 East 2nd North. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home at 61 North 1st East in Rexburg and Friday at the stake center from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery.
