Gayle Taylor, age 91, a long time Rexburg resident, passed away June 12th, 2026. Gayle was born on December 9th, 1934 in Almo, Idaho, the second of three children to Earl James Taylor and Emily Josephine Whitaker Taylor. She loved growing up on the family ranch helping grow and harvest large gardens, helping at hay time, and driving derrick horses or the tractor with her brother Lowell and sister Sherrel.
She attended Almo grade school for 8 years and attended Raft River High School in Malta, Idaho where she was active in choir and band, playing a trumpet, and graduating as Valedictorian of the class of 1953. She also graduated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Seminary.
Gayle received a scholarship to Ricks College in 1953. After high school graduation, she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. It was there that she met Robert Milton Taylor. They were married in the Idaho Falls temple in 1956.
When Ricks College was again made into a two-year school, they attended BYU Provo and both graduated in 1957 - Robert in Business Management and Accounting and Gayle in Elementary Education. Fall of 1957 they moved to Gooding, Idaho where Robert worked for Les Rice Motors.
In 1959 they returned to Rexburg where Robert became a partner in Taylor Chevrolet, business manager and accountant. During this time they raised a family of five children.
Gayle enjoyed substitute teaching in the Madison School District. She always accepted any assignment from pre-school to high school.
In college she was privileged to take art classes from Olivia Parsons at Ricks and after her family was raised, she became a member of the Valley Art Guild, 2001-2019.
Gayle was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many callings in her ward and stake.
Robert was called to oversee a sealing group in the Idaho Falls temple, and Gayle served faithfully with him there for 14 years.
Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and their grandson, Byron T Sorensen. She is survived by five children, Robb (Lynn) Taylor of Orem, Utah, Val (Jeri) Taylor of Yuma, Arizona, Grant (Mindy) Taylor of Mesa, Arizona, Darin Taylor of West Jordan, Utah, Cherie Taylor of Rigby, Idaho, sixteen grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at the Rexburg Fourth Ward chapel from 9:30am to 10:30am on Saturday, June 20th. The funeral will be held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in Rexburg, Idaho, at 11:00am that same day.
