Obituary

GayNell Curtis passed away at Madison Memorial Hospital on June 21, 2025.

GayNell was born in Rexburg, Idaho, on December 7, 1967, to Glen Royce Curtis and Bonnie Louise Holmes Curtis. She loved the fact that she was born on Pearl Harbor Day. Her parents divorced when she was young. She spent her early years living with her mother and older brother Kenneth in Sugar City, Idaho. They later moved to Rexburg, Idaho, to help care for her maternal grandparents. She continued to live in this home after her mother passed away.

GayNell was employed as a cook at Madison Memorial Hospital in the Paragon Café until she began having issues with her health. In 2017, following several surgeries and an extended stay in a rehabilitation facility in Bountiful, Utah, an opportunity came to sell that home. She then purchased a home and moved back to Sugar City.

GayNell attended schools in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School.

GayNell enjoyed reading, movies, and collecting Special Edition Barbie dolls, Beanie babies, and stuffed bears. She was a member of the Timeless Treasures Doll Club of Idaho Falls. She along with her mother, spent many hours helping restore the Rexburg Carousel after the damage of the Teton Dam collapsed, they hosted visitors at the Teton Flood Museum, and helped with the International Dance Festival. GayNell had a host of online gaming friends.

GayNell had a cheerful disposition and sense of humor in spite of dealing with significant health problems during the past few years. She had a close relationship with her mother and looked forward to being with her again.

GayNell is survived by her brother Kenneth. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

At her request, a private dedication will take place.
