Geneva Nell Brown Sanders, 93, of Rexburg, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at her daughter's home of natural causes.
She was born December 10, 1917 in Plano, Idaho to Sidney Earl and Rachel Rebecca Lucas Brown. She attended school in Camas and Hamer and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
She married David Ray Sanders on October 1, 1936, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They began their life together ranching in Hamer later moving to farm in the Goshen area for a short time. They returned to Hamer in 1950 to run her mother's ranch after her father and brothers' deaths. She enjoyed life on the ranch. She loved milking her cows, canning and doing yard work and always providing meals for cattle drives, branding and haying crews.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President for 15 years with three bishops. She also served as the Young Women's secretary, Sunday School secretary, a faithful visiting teacher, and in many other callings. She and her husband served a mission to the New Mexico Albuquerque mission. She was also very involved in humanitarian service making quilts, putting them on in her home until moving to her daughter Barbara's home ten months ago. She also made quilts for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many neighbor's new babies.
Geneva's life evolved around service for family, friends and neighbors. If there was someone in need, she was there for them, offering love in whatever way she could. She especially loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Dean (Sandy) Sanders of Twin Falls, Barbara (Larry) Shupe of Rexburg, Renae (Ned) Zollinger of Salem, Darrell Sanders of Huntington Beach, California; 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Sidney Earl Brown, Jr., a sister Selma Brown Jeppesen, a daughter Norma Nell Sanders, a son D. Reed Sanders, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, at the Stonebridge LDS Chapel, 475 East 7th North, with Bishop Dan Hanna officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in Fielding Memorial Park in Idaho Falls.
