Obituary

George Junior Messick, 87, of Rexburg, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at his home of natural causes.

George was born August 4, 1926, in Basalt, Idaho, to Brinkley Hansen Messick and Birtie Margaret Scarborough Messick. He attended school in Shelley and Idaho Falls. He grew up in Basalt, Shelley and Idaho Falls. George learned at a young age the value of hard work. He was welcomed by four brothers and two sisters.

In January 1948, he met the love of his life, Gloy Albertson, in Idaho Falls. They were married July 2, 1948 in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized on February 26, 1959, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

George was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including counselor in the Elder's Quorum, counselor in the High Priest Group, ward clerk at Ricks College, and ward clerk in the Rexburg 2nd Ward and Rexburg 11th Ward.

George worked for Myron Lewis for 15 years and then at Ricks College for 28 years. He owned George Messick Cleaning Service. He cleaned many homes and businesses in Rexburg and the surrounding areas.

He is survived by his wife, Gloy Messick, of Rexburg; children, Carol (Ted) Erikson of Rexburg, Carrie (Brian) Monson of LaBelle, Bonnie (Russ) Wilcox of Emmett, Georgiana (Guy) Guymon of Lyman and Rona Sue (Terry) Murdock of Ucon; 16 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Earl Wayne Messick, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Rexburg Center Stake Chapel, 590 Summerwood Drive, with Bishop Kory Lofthouse officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Firth Cemetery.
