Our dear Father and Grandfather Gerald Lynn Taylor returned home in the early hours of Wednesday September 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born Oct 10, 1935 in Rexburg, Idaho to Delbert G. and Eva Clement Taylor. He married Gae Bernice Connell June 11, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They resided in Rexburg their entire married life (60 years).
Dad's life was full of family, friends and his buddies at the golf course. After graduating from Madison High he attended Ricks College (BYUI) for 1 year before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Hawaiian Islands where he loved the people he served. Dad and Mom later served two missions to the West Indies and Temple Square. He played basketball for Ricks College before transferring to BYU where he earned a bachelor's degree in science.
Gerald purchased Taylor Chevrolet Co. from his father in 1961 and loved associating with the wonderful people of the Upper Valley and the many close associates over the years. He made many friendships that endured a lifetime. His involvement with many different business ventures proved challenging and rewarding including a partnership in Mountain West Bark where his business skills helped make it an enduring part of the community landscape.
He served faithfully in the Church and loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the hope it gives to all. Being part of several Bishoprics and serving twice as Bishop was not only a great growing experience but a wonderful opportunity to share his wit and wisdom, especially with the youth. They were drawn to his sense of humor.
Dad served his community on many boards including Planning and Zoning, Chairman of the Rexburg Airport Board, project committee's for the Mayor and President of Bill's Island Association. Dad and Mom were great supporters of Ricks College and BYU Idaho. He was an avid pilot and loved buying and selling airplanes and logged over 2000 hours.
He is survived by his six children, David (Linda) Taylor of Rexburg, Leslie Garner of Idaho Falls, Lynda (Mark) Rudd of Rexburg, Bruce (Tina) Taylor of St. George UT, Julie (Brett) Hugie of Logan UT, and Mike (Katie) Taylor of Smithfield UT and 25 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
Father's life changed dramatically after the death of Mom in May. He longed to be with her and now that reunion has occurred.
