Giles R. Johnson, 72, passed away Wednesday, December 8, in Idaho Falls.
He was born April 26, 1938, in Hibbard, Idaho, the son and second child of Roland Osborn and Flora Belle Jaques Johnson.
Giles was active in 4-H, music, sports and was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 4-H he had beef projects which he entered in the Madison County Fair and Eastern Idaho State Fair. One year his calf was judged to be in the top five in the 4-H beef showings at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
In Church he sang and played the piano. He graduated from the LDS seminary. He played competitive Church softball where he pitched no-hit no run games. On the eighth grade basketball court he alone consistently scored more points than the total number for members of the opposing team. He also enjoyed playing cornet with his school's band.
In the summer prior to his entry into high school he was involved in an auto accident which delayed his entry for one year and also made it impossible for him to participate in the many activities he had enjoyed in his young life. He graduated from Madison High School in 1957 and attended Ricks College for a short time.
He was lovingly cared for at home by his father who preceded him in his death in 1967 and by his mother who died in 1985. When his mother could no longer care for him he was placed in caretaking homes.
He is survived by his brother, Van Craig (Barbara) Johnson of Evanston, WY; sisters: Jeannene J. Nelson States of Arlington, TX, and LuWana (Marshall) Roberts, Rexburg, Idaho.
Graveside services will be conducted by Flamm Funeral Home and interment will be in the Sugar City cemetery.
