Gloy Serilla Albertson Messick, 85, of Rexburg, died Wednesday July 8, 2015 at Rexburg Care & Rehabilitation of a sudden illness.
Gloy was born July 8, 1930, in Osgood, Idaho, to Francise Annis Albertson and Margaret Elizabeth Robinson. She attended school in Osgood and Idaho Falls. She grew up in the Osgood area. She was the 8th child of 12 children. Eight brothers and three sisters.
On July 2, 1948, she married George Junior Messick in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized on February 26, 1959, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Gloy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held various callings in the church. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She spent many wonderful years as a Pink Lady Volunteer at Madison Memorial Hospital. One of her favorite accomplishments was that she was a life time member of Weight Watchers.
Gloy worked at Norge's Laundromat for many years and helped her husband with his cleaning business in Rexburg and the surrounding areas.
She is survived by her children; Carol (Ted) Erikson, of Rexburg; Carrie (Brian) Monson of LaBelle, Bonnie (Russ) Wilcox, of Emmett; Georgiana (Guy) Guymon of Lyman and Rona Sue (Terry) Murdock, of Ucon; 2 sisters, Nyla Landon of Wapello and Annis Taylor of Idaho Falls; 1 brother, Floyd (Janeil) Albertson of Snake River, Idaho . She had 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Messick, her son, Earl Wayne Messick, 7 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the Rexburg Center Stake Chapel, 590 Summerwood Drive, with Bishop Kory Lofthouse officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. both times at the Rexburg Center Stake Chapel. Interment will be in the Firth Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
