Obituary

Gordon Lutz Holley died suddenly at his home December 21, 2014. He was born in Rexburg on October 23, 1930, the youngest child of F.J., "Fritz" and Phebe Holley. Owing to WWII, and dearth of men, he began work young. At age 13, he spent two summers entirely alone, with sheep on the desert north of Juniper Mountain.

During the school year, he worked as a projectionist at the Romance Theater. Upon graduation from Madison High School, he logged for Stoddard Lumber Company in Island Park. Gordon then attended Technical College in Los Angeles, CA, until the Korean Conflict prompted him to join the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Morocco, North Africa for most of his tour.

His father, F.J. Holley, had founded Holley Plumbing, Heating, & Roofing in 1930, and Gordon began work full-time there in 1952. He obtained his pilot's license in 1950. In 1953 he spearheaded the formation of the Civil Air Patrol's Rexburg Squadron, and served as the commanding officer for eight years.

In 1953, he was made an Auxiliary Idaho State Police Officer. As such, he flew many Search and Rescue and Mercy flights in the area. In 1957, he led cadets to Peru, under the auspices of the Civil Air Patrol. That same year, Major Gordon Holley commanded the Utah/Idaho Civil Air Patrol's encampment at Mountain Home A.F.B.

In 1957, he married Arlyce Kunz. Children Steve and Linda were born. They later divorced.

His father's sudden and untimely death in 1961 forced the purchase of the business from his mother. He launched his career installing plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems in Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada.

In 1970, he married Lynda Jensen Bowen; a young widow, with children, Todd and Jody. Two families instantly became one, as he and his new bride raised all four children.

He was awarded Grassman of the Year in 1974 for his efforts in pasture ground development of his Columbia sheep, and later, registered Angus personal livestock operation. Gordon served as President of the Idaho State Plumbing and Heating, Cooling Contractors Association in 1977 and was Idaho's delegate to the national convention in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 2009, Gordon retired from Holley's United Plumbing & Heating, Inc., he treasured the many relationships that he had with the customers, clients, and suppliers; but mostly his employees.
Gordon served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in both home and campus wards. Gordon and his wife Lynda were married for 44 years and have 4 children, 18 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren which were his greatest enjoyment.

He is survived by his wife Lynda, of Rexburg; sons, Todd (Diane) Bowen of Sandy, Utah; Steve (Dawn) Holley of Rexburg, Idaho; daughters, Jody (Paul) Hansen of Price, Utah; and Linda (Joel) Baldridge of Nampa, Idaho.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerald Holley, a sister, Norma Jean Holley Karg, and his in-laws Grant and Loretta Jensen.
