Obituary

Gordon Rett Southam, 58, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024
surrounded by family.

Gordon was born on September 10, 1966, in Cedar City, Utah as the first child to
Everett R. Southam and Sherry Turner Southam. Before Gordon was 4 years old he
had lived in 5 states and 8 different houses. After his dad graduated with his PHD,
the family settled in Chico, CA for the remainder of Gordon's growing up years.
As a child, Gordon was always interested in learning. Gordon would often be seen
lying on the floor in front of the bookshelf reading the family's set of Britannica
Encyclopedias. Gordon was also very interested in computers as soon as personal
computers became a thing. His dad, realizing that a computer would be a benefit
to the family and especially to Gordon, bought an Apple II Plus in 1981. Gordon
quickly learned to write programs, and that started his career working with
computers.

Gordon graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, California in 1984 as
a National Merit Scholar. Gordon also earned his Eagle Scout Award. After
graduation, he faithfully served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in the Canada Winnipeg Mission 1985-87.

Gordon was attending Brigham Young University when he and Camille Kingsford
first met. Gordon graduated from BYU on April 22, 1994 with a Bachelor's Degree
in Electronic Engineering and a minor in Business. Then, he and Camille were
married for time and all eternity the next day in the Jordan River Utah Temple.
Shortly after being married, they moved to Grass Valley, California. After eight
years of struggling to have kids, God blessed them to be able to begin their family.
Their first miracle, Tanner was born in 2002. Less than three years later, they were
blessed with miracle triplets: Paige, Whitney, and Brendan. Gordon was such a fun
dad and dedicated husband. He knew when to be goofy and when to be serious.
He treated Camille like a queen and was the kids' greatest cheerleader. It was his
greatest joy to be a Dad.

He was fortunate to be employed by various companies across the US. He worked
in Grass Valley, California for fifteen years, Covington, Louisiana for ten years,
Brandon, Mississippi for four years, and most recently Tucson, AZ for the last year
of his life. These ventures moved his family around as he was able to work on an
assortment of software, hardware, and firmware projects ranging from laser
tables, telescope mounts and remotes, smart meters, satellite communications,
and aerospace ventures. He really was living his dream.

Gordon lived life to the fullest and never had a boring day. He was always so
inquisitive and creative. This led him to find joy in various hobbies such as stained
glass, pottery, kite building, being outdoors, woodworking, painting, and rock
collection/lapidary work. He enjoyed creating and figuring out how things worked.
There wasn't a broken thing that he couldn't fix. He loved to share his hobbies and
his love for BYU football with his greatest possession, his family.

Gordon was a great example of reaching out to the one in church callings, Scouts,
and Hurricane/Tornado clean up. He lived by what he taught. He was an example
of unwavering faith and had a firm testimony of Jesus Christ. He was always there
to share bad dad jokes, to teach, and to listen. Let's live like Gordon did. There was
never a detour or roadblock in his life, just a new adventure.

Gordon is survived by his adoring wife Camille (Kingsford) Southam and his four
loving children, Tanner (22), Paige (19), Whitney (19), and Brendan (19). He is also
survived by his dear mother Sherry and 6 siblings - Annaleis (David) Smith, Blaine
(Crystle) Southam, Eric (Jennifer) Southam, Boyd (Stephanie) Southam, Brent
(Laetitia) Southam, and Maureen (Bryan) Dalton. He was also loved by many
nephews, nieces, in-laws, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his
father, Everett R. Southam, and father-in-law, Clinton O. Kingsford.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 am MST
at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, ID. The family will receive family and friends
at the viewing preceding the service at 10:00 am. For those attending the service,
