IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Grace Poulsen
Dixon
February 7, 1927 – April 25, 2020
Grace Marie Johnson was born February 7, 1927 at Pocatello, Idaho, the seventh child born to Albin E. and Signe Maria Johnson. She has four brothers and two sisters.
When Grace was two years old the Johnson family moved to Logan, Utah where her dad was employed with American Oil Co. Here Grace attended the Whittier Grade School, Jr. High, and High School. After graduation she went to Washington D.C. where she was employed for a time and then returned to Logan to enter the Utah State University.
There was no doubt that the eternal plan was for Grace to return to Utah. For it was at Utah State that she met Blair Poulsen. Grace and Blair were married in Logan on February 1, 1949 and to this marriage three children were born. Peggy Ann, John Blair and Robert Blair have been their pride and joy. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple at which time the children were sealed to them thus making them an eternal family.
One can never imagine the hours and years that goes into making an accomplished organist such as Grace. Grace started playing the piano at the age of nine and took lessons from Irving Wasserman for a number of years. At the age of 12 she gave a recital at the Blue Bird Banquet room in Logan for 125 invited guests. (This shows how far she came in just three years).
Grace certainly has not been one to hide her talent under a bushel basket. Because of her love for music she has been an organist in every ward she has lived in and played for many to sing and play their instruments. She also played in an orchestra for three years (that sounds fun). While living at the Homestead she continued to share her musical talents with the residents until her death. But her greatest joy was playing the "horsey" song for her grandchildren and great grandchildren while they danced around the room. She taught piano lessons for a good number of years, and has worked most of her married life.
She has worked at Mountain Bell, East Carbon School District, John W. Galbreith and Company, and is credited with more than 30 years at Gooding Memorial Hospital.
Her husband Blair passed away June 18, 1993. "In a letter he wrote, he stated the following: "Besides all these accomplishments, Grace is a special companion and good wife and an excellent mother. Grace is excited about her grandchildren and at her happiest when they visit".
Grace married her 2nd husband Verl Dixon on April 22, 1995 in the Boise Temple. They spent many happy years working together in the temple, going fishing and traveling. Verl passed away January 4, 2002. After Verl passed away Grace moved to Washington State to live with her daughter and family until she moved to the Homestead in Rexburg, Idaho where she lived until her death on April 25, 2020.
Grace is survived by her three children, her daughter Peggy (Alan) Davis Richland, Washington, her son John Poulsen Rexburg, Idaho, and her son Robert (Sheri) Poulsen Idaho Falls, Idaho, 11 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held in the Logan City Cemetery. Arrangements have been under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
