Grace Ann Powell, 86, of Newdale, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at her home of natural causes. She was born December 23, 1923 in Albany, California to Michelangelo Logoteta and Maria Vincenza Sofia. She attended schools in Daly City and Albany, California.
She married Francis J. Powell on August 8, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on March 20, 1959.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among her years of service she served in the Primary organization, as Relief Society President and two missions with her husband. She was devoted to humanitarian services where she bound over 700 quilts and made 52 afghans for the Shriners Hospital and Primary Children's Medical Center. She also served as a temple ordinance worker.
Grace was an avid sports fan and loved all forms of sporting events.
She is survived by her husband Francis Powell of Newdale, ID, her children, Jack (Sherrolin) Powell of Portland, OR, Jami (Darryl) Townsend of Pflugerville, TX, Lesli (Floyd) Simper of Newdale, ID, Michael (Cindy) Powell of Newdale, ID, and Niki (Richard) Hawkes of Twin Falls, ID as well as 29 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Sammy Logoteta of Hayward, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Ronald Powell.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 16th at the Newdale LDS Chapel, Bishop Larid Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Idaho Veteran's Cemetery in Boise. Services are under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
