Oscar Grant Neilson, 86 a long time resident of Archer and Rexburg, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg. He was born August 14, 1925 in Heman, ID to Carl Albert and Edna Mildred Farley Neilson. He was the fifth of eight children. At the age of four he sustained a serious head injury which affected him for the rest of his life. He attended first grade thru high school in Twin Falls, ID.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While younger he served a 2 ½ year Spanish American Mission, covering five states.
Upon his return he married Berniece Grover, September 5, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Together they raised six children.
He worked as a laborer at several business in the Rexburg area. He was also a representative for Fuller Brush. He and his wife served a humanitarian mission in Idaho Falls before she pasted away and then he completed the mission after her death. Shortly after his wifes death he moved to Rexburg. He married Lela Hardy. She died two years later.
He is survived by his children, Marsha (Ron) Peterson of Escondido, CA, Julie (Kent) Stott of Mesa, AZ, Milon (Pat) Neilson of Columbus, OH, Aleene (Jess) Lopez of Amarillo, TX, Dale (Suk) Neilson of Caldwell, ID, Yolonda McKenna of Summerville, SC, as well as 21 grandchildren and 57 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Morris Neilson of Salt Lake City, UT, Darwin Neilson of Twin Falls, ID, a sister Helen Pennant of Idaho City, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Berniece and Lela, his sisters, Verla and Ruth, and his brothers, Delbert and Ray.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Archer-Sunnydell LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
