Obituary

Gregory F. Moffat, of Rexburg, ID passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Madison Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. Greg was born February 16, 1949 in Driggs, ID to Willis F. Moffat and Lorene Little. He attended grade school in Driggs, ID where he also graduated from Teton High School. He had many fond memories of his time growing up in Driggs, ID. He also attended Ricks College where he played basketball and later graduated from Boise State where he received a degree in Political Science.

Greg chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1968 and was called to the Northern Far East (Japan) Mission. He had many fond memories of his mission which he often shared with his family. He also brought home with him an affinity for Japanese food which he has passed down to many of his children and grandchildren. Many times growing up he made gyoza for our family and he often brought sushi home for everyone to try.

On May 27, 1972 he married his high-school sweetheart, Saundra Sue Moffat, in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Greg and Saundra brought four children into that union and raised them in a happy home in Rexburg, ID. He was a wonderful husband and father to his family who loved him very much. He was an outstanding role model not only to his close family but to many others that he met along the way.

He worked in construction and for the Madison County Sheriff's office for the majority of his adult life. He loved his time as the sheriff and the opportunity to serve those around him and he made many lifelong friends during his time there. He loved anything to do with the outdoors, especially spending time hunting and doing things with his family. He enjoyed work in general and was still working with his son hanging sheetrock at the time of his accident in February this year.

He served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints including primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, the young men's organization, the high priests group, bishopric and the high council. He was also a faithful home teacher. While he was being treated in the hospital he commented that he was most excited to come back home and attend priesthood meeting.

He is survived by his wife, Saundra Moffat of Rexburg, ID and four children; Jared (Nita) Moffat of Idaho Falls, ID; Kristy Lacey of Rexburg, ID; Angie Moffat of Rexburg, ID; Cole (Angelita) Moffat of Rigby, ID; a sister, Marsha (Boyd) Fullmer of Lehi, UT; two brothers, Blake (Shirley) Moffat of Mesa, AZ and Mike (Phyllis) Moffat of New Market, TN; 9 grandchildren and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
