IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gwili
Saurey
April 13, 1938 – January 26, 2024
Gwili Saurey, of Rexburg Idaho, passed away on January 26, 2024 at EIRMC in Idaho Falls, at the age of 85, after complications from a stroke. She was the first born of 2 children to LeRoy B and Genevieve Pearl Anderson Saurey on April 13, 1938 in Rexburg.
After graduating from Madison High School and Ricks College she attended BYU-Provo planning to major in clothing and textiles and minor in child development. Her classes and instructors at BYU Provo gave her the idea that she should look into the possibility of helping in a finishing school. She was able to have her very own finishing school, "Magic Touch Finishing School" in Idaho Falls. She helped prepare young ladies for Miss Idaho Falls Pageants and one student even went on to become Miss Idaho and then first runner up in the Miss America pageant.
Gwili sold her finishing school and faithfully went on an LDS mission to the Eastern States Mission. On her mission she served in the New York area proselytizing and walking in all kinds of weather. She taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to crowds of people at the Hill Cumorah Pageant and had the opportunity to serve as a guide in the Mormon Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair.
After her mission she learned of a BYU group that was going to study at an Universidad de Mexico in Mexico City and decided to spend a remarkable summer in Mexico. There she had an opportunity to learn the language and culture. She found it very rewarding using these skills for 13 years working in the ESL Spanish program in Madison School District.
Gwili found great joy using her skills from her child development classes working as a nanny with the Ferguson Family. She never had children of her own but was able to bless the lives of those 6 children. Her slogan was "Love a child and your heart stays young, Love a family and your joy is full"
Gwili truly loved many children and families. She enjoyed family history and her home was always a welcome place for visitors. She enjoyed music and teaching piano. She has many journals and newspapers clippings telling of all the people she met and loved. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel and enjoyed serving in her church callings and as a temple ordinance worker. She worked as an usher for events at BYU Idaho up until the time of her death.
Gwili was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Pearl Loveland, her nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors.
