Harold D. Hill, 93 of Rexburg, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg, causes incident to age.
He was born December 2, 1924 in Ucon, Idaho, the first of six children born to B. James "Jim" Hill and Amelia "Millie" Miskin Hill. He was raised in Ucon and attended grade school there. He graduated from Ucon High School in 1942. During that summer he worked in a defense plant in Ogden, Utah. He attended Ricks College that fall where after two quarters, he entered the U.S. Navy in April of 1943. He served in the South Pacific as a hospital corpsman aboard a troop ship which delivered troops to Australia, New Caledonia, New Guinea and Guadalcanal then hauled casualties back to San Francisco. After nearly two years aboard the ship, he was chosen as one of two crew members to attend officers training school. He was assigned to Idaho State College in Pocatello and then to UCLA in Los Angeles.
After his discharge in April of 1946 he was married to Reva Ritchie, also of Ucon, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 5, 1946. After their marriage, Reva taught school in Pocatello while Harold attended the Pharmacy School there. After graduation in 1948, Harold served his internship in Blackfoot and then bought the Jenkins Drugstore in Sugar city. After thirteen years in Sugar City, he merged with Thriftway Drugstores of St. Anthony and Rexburg. His last ten years as a pharmacist were spent in the pharmacy at Kmart in Rexburg.
Harold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions including; Elder's Quorum President, Seventies President, Stake Mission President, Counselor in a Branch Presidency at Ricks College and as bishop of a college married ward.
After their retirement in 1990, Harold and Reva served in the Perth Australia Mission. Fives later they served a mission at the Mormon Battalion Visitor's Center in San Diego.
Harold had an acreage in Egin where he raised and trained horses. He like to write novels and had completed 19 which he shared with his family and friends.
His is survived by his daughter, Valynn (Mitch) Jacobs of Hamer, Idaho; three sons, Brent (Julie) Hill of Rexburg, Idaho, Brian (Renee) Hill of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Brad (Lori) Hill of Egin, Idaho, as well as 22 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Vernon Hill of Ucon and Roger (Lorna) Hill of Idaho Falls and one sister, LaNae Hall of Escondido, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters; Evajean May and Genice Stoffel, a sister-in-law, Alene Hill and a grandson, Ritchie Hill.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 26th at the Rexburg 4th Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
