IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen
Hall
August 31, 1936 – November 23, 2024
Our angel mother, Helen Winona Murdoch Hall, age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on November 23, 2024 in Orem, Utah. She was reunited with her beloved husband, Ronald, who passed away in June of this year. The reunion in Heaven must have been wonderful as she stepped across the veil.
She was born August 31, 1936 to Brigham Dallas and Winona Lee Murdoch in Emmett Idaho, the second of eight children. Helen's older brother Ronald died at age three, leaving her the oldest in the family. At age 16, her mother passed away and Helen took on the responsibility of running the household and caring for her five younger siblings. It prepared her in future years to be the mother of twelve children, six boys and six girls.
Growing up, her family lived in Ucon Idaho, then moved to a sheep ranch near Lima, Montana. When she was a teen, they returned to Grant, Idaho, and lived in the home where her mother was raised. She attended Rigby High School where she met her future husband Ronald. Although they were friends, they never dated until they both attended Ricks College. After their first year of college, he left to serve a mission in Central America while she attended the LDS Hospital Nursing Program in Idaho Falls where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.
Helen and Ronald were married August 22, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple. The children came quickly with the first five born in Salt Lake City during the time he attended the University of Utah. They had 5 children under the age of 5 when he finished school. Helen loved her work as a nurse and was employed on and off during that time, beginning at a doctor's office until her first child was born, then later at Holy Cross Hospital until Ronald graduated.
Following graduation, she and Ronald moved to Rigby, Idaho, where four more children joined the family. They began their time of living and working on various dairy farms in Garfield, (Rigby) Burton and Hibbard (Rexburg). The last three boys joined the family, one in each of those locations. Her children will always remember the large gardens, harvest time, and the entire family involved in canning and preserving food in the fall.
In 1976 the family experienced first hand the destruction of the Teton Dam. They lost their home, livestock and most of their personal possessions. Although it was difficult to experience, Helen and her family buckled down and got to work cleaning up the mess and rebuilding their lives. She designed, helped build and landscaped their new home. Helen never complained during that time, a testament to her ability to focus on the challenge at hand and simply getting through it by working hard and moving forward. Her motto throughout her life was "The only way out is through."
Helen and Ronald owned several businesses including: The R&B Drive-in, Hang It On Ya clothing store, and Stephanie's Dress Shop. She ran the dress shop for over a decade and was a life-long learner, taking business classes to improve her skills to successfully manage the store. After 17 years of raising her family, Ronald became unemployed. So, in addition to managing the store, Helen resumed her work as a nurse on the maternity floor at Madison Memorial Hospital. Her coworkers and patients respected her as a wonderful nurse, especially in Labor and Delivery.
While she was raising her family, she was also a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as Relief Society president twice, Primary president, Young Women's president and teaching various ages and classes. She was also involved in Cub Scouts with all 6 of her sons.
In 1993 Ronald and Helen served for three years as Mission Leaders for the El Salvador, San Salvador, East Mission. In addition to her other responsibilities, Helen also served as the mission nurse. She worked diligently to learn Spanish and served faithfully alongside her husband. Shortly after returning home, they left again to teach English at a University in Hefei, China for a year. They were then called to serve as Mission Leaders for the Guatemala Missionary Training Center with Helen again taking on the additional responsibility of caring for the missionaries' health needs.
In 2000 they finally settled in Orem, Utah, where they were able to be reacquainted with their oldest grandchildren and introduced to their newest grandchildren. During this time they continued their missionary service in the Provo Missionary Training Center.
In 2007, Ronald was called as a counselor in the Temple Presidency of the Monterrey, Mexico Temple with Helen serving as Assistant Matron.
Throughout all of her life, as a child, a student, a nurse, wife and mother, serving at home or abroad, Helen bloomed where she was planted.
Her house was always a house of order, even when she had 12 children living at home. She was precise and meticulous in everything she did and taught her children to cook and clean and care for each other. The job charts and schedules she created kept her home clean and large family organized and productive.
Helen was a great example of goodness, kindness, sweetness, patience, giving, frugality, hard work and being a peacemaker. She lived a lifetime of service in her home, church, work, neighborhood and community and was consecrated in her service to her family and to the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald, brothers Ronald and Dallas Murdoch, sister Mary Lou Versey, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters. She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Dale) Gibson, Stewart Hall, Greg (Pearl) Hall, Natalie (Bruce) Godby, Kimberly (Alan) Blackham, Bradley Hall, Lorilee (Trent) Richardson, Lisa (Bret) Banks, Marsha (John) Larsen, Brent (Becky) Hall, Steven (Debi) Hall, and Brian (Marci) Hall, 66 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren, with more on the way.
Funeral services will be held December 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at the LDS church located at 4775 North 300 West, Provo, Utah; with a viewing held that morning from 9-10:30 am. Interment will follow at the Orem Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
