Helen Amelia Petty Glenn, age 90, died 17, August 2009, at her daughter's home in Rexburg, Idaho. Helen was born November 8, 1918, in Emery, Utah, the seventh child of William Arthur and Ada Amelia Williams Petty.
Helen married Harold "J" Glenn of September 27, 1939, in the Salt Lake Temple. They resided in Ogden, Utah; then Phoenix, Arizona; San Mateo, Fremont, and Santa Rosa, California. They lived in Orem, Utah, for 15 years before moving to Rexburg in June, 2004. In May of 2009, Helen moved into the Homestead Assisted Living, where she was cared for beautifully.
When her mother passed away, Helen learned as a girl to cook and to keep house for her father and older siblings. She was always a diligent and conscientious housekeeper. Helen trained as a beautician and loved to do people's hair. She worked for many years at J. C. Penney's stores and was a pharmacist's assistant for 15 years until she retired.
Helen loved people. Wherever she went, she gathered friends. She loved to serve, to help people, and to give parties. She had many lifelong friends, from every place she lived.
Helen, affectionately known as "Grandma Great," crocheted beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren. She made photo albums and scrapbooks and wrote histories of her family. She and Harold played tennis until they were 75.
Helen was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a seminary teacher, a gospel doctrine teacher, and as an officer in Relief Society, Young Women's, and Primary. She and Harold served together in the Nauvoo Restoration Mission from October of 1980 to April of 1982. They officiated as temple workers for 15 years in the Oakland, Provo, and Timpanogos Temples.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Glenn (Ralph) Thompson, of Rexburg; a son, William Craig (Lynnette) Glenn of Oceanside, California: 20 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "J" Glenn, by a son, Harold Stephen Glenn, and by siblings Arthur Luzon Petty, Wynona Petty (Lon) Jensen, Voorshees Petty, Harold Nephi Petty, Rellis Van Petty, and George Leland Petty.
Funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, August 28, at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
