Obituary

Herbert Roy Duchscher, 66, of Rexburg, formerly of Blackfoot, died March 22, 2023, in Rexburg from natural causes. He was born December 2, 1956, in Palm Springs, California to Delbert Roy and Jennie May McCauley Herman, the third of five children. His father, Roy, died when Herbert was 5 years old. His mother married James Duchscher and together they raised Herbert and his siblings.

Herbert was born with cerebral palsy. He learned to walk and take on the world, in spite of his challenges.

In 1976, the family moved to Washington where Herbert lived for five years. He then returned to Blackfoot, where he lived and was educated at Dawn Enterprises.  He lived on his own for many years, then as he got older he had a couple of group homes he stayed in where he had some great friends.  His best friend, Stan, would take him to the fair and many great adventures.

He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. His brother and sister are rock hounds, and he loved the rocks that they would share with him.

He participated in the Special Olympics and earned several medals and other awards.

Herbert loved everyone.  To know him was to love him!

He is survived by his father, Jim Duchscher of Blackfoot; siblings, Rose (Darrell) Reeder of Roberts, Joe Duchscher of Blackfoot; seven nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy; mother, Jennie; brother, Delbert Jr., and a sister Ruth.

A family gathering will be held at time yet to be determined.
